Eco Matki Water Stations

Natural clay pot (matki) water bowls to keep birds, stray dogs, and small animals hydrated during scorching summer months.

Beat the Summer Heat

In peak summer, natural water bodies dry up. Stray animals and urban birds suffer severe dehydration and heatstroke.

Terracotta and clay pots (matki) cool water naturally through evaporative cooling, keeping the water fresh and cool even at 45°C temperatures.

Hygiene & Anti-Mosquito Protocol

  • • Daily Refill & Scrub: Change the water daily and scrub the interior twice a week to prevent algae and mosquito larvae (dengue/malaria risk).
  • • Shaded Location: Place bowls under tree shade or balcony awnings to minimize evaporation.
  • • Clean Base Stand: Place matkis on raised brick bases so they remain clean and un-soiled.

Setup Steps

1

Soak New Terracotta Vessel

Soak a wide-mouth clay pot or matki in clean water overnight before first use so the pores absorb moisture.

2

Set Up Raised Stable Base

Place 2-3 bricks or a sturdy metal stand in a shaded corner of your street, garden, or terrace to keep the pot stable.

3

Fill & Adopt Daily Routine

Fill with fresh tap water every morning. Assign a neighborhood volunteer or family member to supervise the bowl.
